Pasi Pänkäläinen, born 1964 - Designer
After graduating Pasi Pänkäläinen started his career in co-operation with PIIROINEN where he acquired his practical experience in industrial furniture design and working in industrial environment. As the first furniture designer at PIIROINEN, he created the guidelines for the future furniture; individuals that share same characteristics as the very first Arena line. The starting-point in his design is the interest in understanding people to whom the furniture is made. He wants to know how we think, feel and act as well as how we experience and use our constructed environment and products. He believes that a good product involves joy of invention, both for the designer and the user. This idea is followed in his furniture design but also in fair and exhibition design, product and package design as well as in his teaching work. He was awarded the 'Finland Prize' of National Council for Design in 1997.
