Tom Stepp

Tom Stepp, 1950
Experience:
Architectural technician and architect. Graduated in architecture from The Danish Academy of Architecture. He founded the design company Tom Stepp in 1980.
Normann Products: Trivet
"I was looking for a trivet but couldn't find one on the market. The ones that I found were all in the same size; however, I didn't fancy the idea of having three identical trivets in my drawer. That is how the idea of one adjustable trivet came about".
Approach:
"I always imagine that I have one only customer and that is myself. I always look at my own personal needs because if I need a particular product I believe that others do too. Right after getting the idea I start sketching. I am usually able to do the conception in my head so the drawing process is simply a clear visualisation which has to be done. Afterwards I resolve the technical aspects about materials, dimensions and so on.
In general I always want the products I have designed for myself. I often feel like a kind of inventor occupied with improvements. I feel satisfied when other people appreciate my efforts, and I get inspired by everyday life".
Motto:
" Rather less but real good".
Think Big:
"Right now I am working on a balcony project for a DIY store. Everybody should have the right to a balcony so I hope that will become reality one day."
